Storytelling is the heart of what we do and I feel most empowered when faced with a new challenge.
I believe cinematography is the fusion of technical prowess and curious heart.
I am inspired by stories that cause the dissonance imperative for re-examining our inter-human relationships.
Zane Farmer is a Los Angeles-based director of photography and student member of the Society of Camera Operators SOC.
Born and raised in a valley bordered by the Blue Ridge Mountains, it is through moving images Zane sought a path beyond the familiar. First introduced to the camera at the age of 5 years old, it was only by 12 that he used the medium to create a promotional video which spawned an emerging filmmakers program that continues to help mentor young adults interested in the cinematic arts today. Universal access to education in the visual arts is something he continues to be passionate about.
Merging his curiosities in metaphysics and photography, Zane utilizes the camera as a hand glass to investigate notions of the self and our inter-human relationships. Completing an undergraduate degree in Film & Television Production at the University of Southern California, Zane has collaborated on feature-length films and documentaries, commercials, short form narrative content, and music videos. These projects have garnered accolades from multiple international and national associations including the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and the Oliver White Hill Foundation.
Often working with a diverse group of creatives, the people who have collaborated with Zane describe him as kind to everyone, hard working, and respectful. He prides himself in creating an environment where all team members feel open to share ideas.
Zane’s approach to cinematography is entirely story driven. With a belief in character above all else, his work captures the emotional truths of the narrative and its inhabitants.
